Suzanne's Progress (Separate)

Important
Suzanne's agency goal runs separately. CAB contributions are on top — not instead of — her work. She is at or ahead of last year on her own.
Recent Wins
Svane Family Foundation ($50K) — new donor. Civic Joy Fund ($30K) — new donor. Neither had given to SF Pride before. Celebrate this.

Talking Points

Core messages and conversation frameworks for outreach

SF Pride 2026 — CAB Member

Quick Reference Card

Prepare this before any conversation. Your personal story is your most powerful tool.

Your Main Message

"I'm raising money for SF Pride's Sovereignty Fund because Pride isn't just a celebration anymore. It's survival infrastructure. We're creating financial stability so Pride can lead without fear of corporate sponsor pressure."

Three Points

  1. The crisis is real. 500+ anti-LGBTQ+ bills in 2 years. Pride is 50% dependent on corporate sponsors facing political backlash. Zero financial reserves.
  2. What we're building. A $1M Sovereignty Fund — financial reserves, first-ever Development Director, revenue shift from 50% to 35–40% corporate dependency.
  3. Why it matters. 1.3M people. $150K redistributed to frontline orgs. 100% free. Always. The only major Pride that never charges admission.

By Audience

If they are...Your ask
Personal wealth"I personally gave $[amount]. Would you consider $25K–$100K?"
Foundation officer"I gave personally AND I'm flagging Pride for [Foundation]'s LGBTQ+ grantmaking."
Corporate giving lead"I gave personally. Separately — is [Company] reviewing Pride partnerships?"
Family foundation"I gave personally. Does [Foundation] fund LGBTQ+ infrastructure?"

Top 3 Objections

  • "Isn't Pride mostly corporate-sponsored?" — "That's exactly why I'm asking. We're 50% dependent on sponsors facing attacks. We're building individual support so we're not vulnerable."
  • "I already give to [other LGBTQ+ org]." — "Pride is different. We're the platform 250 orgs use to reach communities. When Pride's stable, everyone benefits."
  • "Why not charge admission?" — "Pride started as protest, not profit. We refuse to gatekeep joy based on economics. Non-negotiable."

After the Conversation (within 24 hours)

  1. Send a thank-you email to the prospect.
  2. CC Suzanne Ford (suzanne.ford@sfpride.org) with a warm intro note.
  3. Set a follow-up date — two weeks out.
  4. Log the conversation using the Outreach Log in this tool.
CAB members only. Review before outreach. Log results after. Questions: Gayle Roberts — gayle.roberts@sfpride.org
"I'm raising money for SF Pride's Sovereignty Fund because Pride isn't just a celebration anymore. It's survival infrastructure. We're creating financial stability so Pride can lead without fear of corporate sponsor pressure."

Your personal story is your most powerful tool. Before any conversation, answer these three questions:

  1. Why did YOU give? (Be specific: came out at Pride, lost family to AIDS, raised a queer kid.)
  2. What amount did YOU commit? (Say it out loud until it's comfortable.)
  3. What scares you most if Pride becomes financially unstable?
  • 500+ anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced in 2023–2024. 84 became law. 26 states now ban gender-affirming care for trans youth.
  • Corporate retreat is real. Long-time sponsors — companies with strong LGBTQ+ ERGs — paused or pulled back entirely in 2025 under coordinated anti-woke campaigns.
  • Pride runs on fumes. 50% corporate dependency, zero financial reserves. One sponsor exit cuts programs: the Trans Stage, accessibility, safety, community grants.
  • The same political forces attacking voting rights and immigrant communities are driving sponsors away from SF Pride. This is not a niche funding problem.

$1 million above operating budget. Not a party fund. A financial shield that lets Pride lead without corporate fear.

  • Retire historical debt — SF Pride has carried debt for years. This clears it.
  • 3-month cash reserve — Finally, a cushion. Weather political pressure without panic.
  • First Development Director — SF Pride's first full-time fundraiser in 54 years of history.
  • Revenue shift — From 50% corporate dependency to 35–40% through individual donors and foundations.
  • Pride is where 1.3 million people practice visible resistance when states criminalize our existence.
  • We redistribute $150K+ annually to frontline orgs: trans youth mutual aid, senior housing, immigrant legal defense.
  • Pride creates organizing infrastructure. Coalitions form. Volunteers recruit. Policy campaigns launch.
  • 100% free access — always. We refuse to gatekeep joy based on economics.

Key Stats (Pick 3–5 to memorize)

  • 1.3M attendees (60% Bay Area, 40% beyond)
  • $500M estimated economic impact
  • $150K in community grants annually (17+ Bay Area orgs)
  • 500K+ ABC7 viewers (77% increase 2023)
  • 250+ parade contingents
  • 100% free admission — always
  • Zero financial reserves — that's what we're changing

For Personal Wealth

"I personally gave $[your amount]. Would you consider $25K–$100K?"
  • Half funds Sovereignty reserves, half funds operations and grants.
  • Multi-year pledges welcome: $50K = $25K/year for 2 years.
  • Tech employees: Your $25K becomes $50K+ with company match. Donate appreciated stock to avoid capital gains.

For Foundation Officers

"I gave personally, AND I'm flagging Pride for [Foundation]'s LGBTQ+ grantmaking."
  • We're applying for $75K–$150K to hire development staff and build sustainable systems.
  • Pride redistributes funding to grassroots orgs foundations struggle to reach: trans-led groups, youth programs.
  • Ask: "Would you flag our Letter of Interest when it arrives?"

For Corporate Giving Leads

"I gave personally. Separately — is [Company] reviewing Pride partnerships?"
  • Quiet partnerships (no logo, internal acknowledgment only) OR strategic partnerships (full activation).
  • Partnership tiers start at $25K.
  • If it's YOUR employer: step back and let Suzanne handle it.

For Family Foundations

"I gave personally. Does [Foundation] fund LGBTQ+ infrastructure?"
  • Pride redistributes resources to grassroots orgs. Could be a good pass-through.

"Isn't Pride mostly corporate-sponsored?"
"That's exactly why I'm asking. We're 50% dependent on sponsors facing attacks. We're building individual support so we're not vulnerable."

"I already give to [other LGBTQ+ org]."
"Pride is different. We're infrastructure — the platform 250 orgs use to reach communities. When Pride's stable, everyone benefits. Plus we're the only major Pride that's 100% free."

"Why not charge admission?"
"Pride started as protest, not profit. We refuse to gatekeep joy based on economics. That's non-negotiable."

"Why private money?"
"Pride is a nonprofit, not city government. Private investment keeps it independent, authentic, and free for everyone."

"Pride is too political."
"Pride has always been political. Your investment keeps it accessible so everyone can participate."

Within 24 hours:

  1. Send a thank-you email to the prospect.
  2. CC Suzanne Ford (suzanne.ford@sfpride.org) with a warm intro.
  3. Set a follow-up date — suggest 2 weeks out.
  4. Log the conversation in this tool (Outreach Log tab): prospect name, interest level, concerns, ask amount discussed, follow-up date.

Remember: You're credible because you gave first and your network trusts your judgment. You're opening doors — Suzanne closes gifts. Your personal story beats the official pitch. It's okay if they say no.

June 10 Action Plan

Castro Theater VIP Kickoff + World Cup Activation — Your two most important dates

June 10 — Castro Theater VIP

What It Is
SF Pride's VIP Kickoff Event at the historic Castro Theater. Private reception upstairs — 100 VIP seats. This is a major donor pitch and cultivation event, not a celebration. Come ready to have real conversations.
Your Job
Bring 5–10 people from your network who have giving capacity ($25K+). Host them. Make introductions. Suzanne closes. You are the credibility and the relationship.
Coordination Lead
Nguyen Pham — co-leading Host Committee with Gayle. Contact Gayle with your guest list by May 15.
Tickets
Early entrance VIP: $100. General admission: $50. Available for purchase shortly via sfpride.org.
Key Message for Guests
"I invited you because I believe in SF Pride's Sovereignty Fund. Tonight is a chance to hear from Suzanne directly and decide if you want to be part of this coalition."

June 13 — World Cup Activation

What It Is
World Cup match in the Bay Area (Qatar vs Switzerland). International press focused on San Francisco. Global LGBTQ+ visibility moment. SF Pride's chance to activate global donors and partners.
Lead
Dr. Nas (Nasser Mohamed) is coordinating global activation for this event. If you have international connections — human rights networks, global donors, diaspora leaders — connect them with Dr. Nas and Gayle now.
Why These Two Events
June 10 builds the local donor coalition. June 13 expands it globally. With the World Cup bringing international press to SF, these three days are the highest-visibility window of the year.
